Course Overview
The “Working Safety for Workers” course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals teaches employees the important information and skills needed for the safe use of mobile ladder stands, platforms, step bolts, and manhole steps. This also meets OSHA compliance requirements for sections 1910.23 (e) and 1910.24. Participants also learn to use equipment that meets the minimum standards of step width, slip-resistance, and supporting 4 times the load. Mobile ladder stands that have top steps of 4 feet or more have handrails and the platforms have guardrails, toeboards and are required to have protection for their height. Stability is more required by OSHA and vertical and slope design requirements help systems to limit and prevent horizontal movement. Workers learn about uniform step dimensions, appropriate slope restrictions, and design details like base support spacing. Slip-resistance, width, spacing of bolts and steps, minimum 10 inch step, 16 inch spacing, corrosion-resistance, and slip prevention for back step were the manhole steps instruction described. Recognizing the safe working surfaces and 1910.22 of the OSHA regulation, workers are required to conduct regular inspection and maintenance at the beginning of their shift. Completing this training equips employees with the necessary skills to lower the likelihood of injuries and falls, while also ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. Not only does this course mitigate hazards, but it also teaches the safe and appropriate use of personal protective equipment, while ensuring that the regulatory safety standards for the environment are followed to keep employees safe and healthy.

The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
