Course Overview
The Certified Safety Trainer CST course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals to prepare candidates for advanced positions as instructors and training managers for workplace safety. This course is rooted in OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926.21 - Safety Training and Education. This course gives you the training to design, implement, and assess safety training programs that comply with the federal occupational safety regulations. Along with the employer's duty to inform workers of the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions, the CST course concentrates on the identification, control, and elimination of hazards to prevent injuries and illnesses. The CST course teaches safe work practices for dealing with and controlling flammable, toxic and caustic materials, and controlling exposure to harmful environmental and biological factors (plants, animals and other organisms). The course combines the theory and practice of designing safety training that is engaging, conducting safety briefings that are risk-based, and managing training with outcome-based assessments. The CST trained participant will practice the principles of adult learning, hazard communication, and other principles of compliance regulations to instill a positive safety culture in the organization. CST certification encourages trainers to adopt OSHA approved materials and methodologies for training to underscore the value of ongoing education. When you finish, you'll be able to run effective safety education programs, helping both employers and workers enhance safety practices, lower incidents, and consistently adhere to OSHA requirements in various industries and construction settings.

The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
