Course Overview
The Working at Heights course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals is aimed at teaching construction workers, construction site supervisors, and safety managers OSHA’s §1926.501 standards regarding fall protection. The course aims to minimize injuries and deaths while working six feet or more over a lower level. These standards cover a wide variety of construction activities including overhand bricklaying, roofing, precast concrete erection, and residential construction. The course teaches when and how to use guardrail systems, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems. Students learn safety techniques for both low-slope and steep roofs and combination systems with warning lines and monitoring systems as well as when fall protection plans need to be developed. The course covers protection requirements for wall openings, unprotected walking or working surfaces, and falling objects, including hard hats, toeboards, and guardrail systems. The interactive approach with case scenarios fosters a clear understanding of OSHA standards, hazard assessment, and control measures. By the end of this course, learners will be able to implement complete fall protection plans, maintain safety by ensuring workers protect themselves on active structures, and promote a safety-first attitude on the job site.

The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site.
