Course Overview
The Certified Safety Specialist CSS course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals is built on the OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 Subpart C Advanced Safety and Health Provisions, and responsibilities of contractors, supervisors, and safety personnel for keeping construction sites safe. This document highlights the legal and moral responsibilities of Section 107 of the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act which states that employers must ensure safe, sanitary, and hazard-free work environments. This course trains participants on how to design and execute preventative measures against workplace accidents, frequent on-spot checks, and compliance, as stated in §1926.20(b), and the law on tagging and removing unsafe tools, machines, and materials. The course covers the principle of competency as defined in OSHA, that only qualified and trained personnel may operate heavy machinery. Trainees understand jurisdictional applications in various U.S. territories and offshore locations as defined in §1926.20 (c) and the law on specific and general safety standards. Much emphasis is placed on the compliance duties concerning each and every employee and the law on enforcement and provision of Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE), mandatory PPE, and hazard control training programs.
At the end of this course, learners will be able to set up, maintain, and manage safety systems that are compliant with rules and regulations, reduce safety violations, and foster a culture of active and positive safety management within the construction and industrial setting, all of which coincide with OSHA’s mission of safeguarding employees and improving the safety and health outcomes of our workplaces throughout the United States.
