Course Overview
The Scaffolding Erector Safety course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals aims to provide construction workers and safety personnel critical skills and understanding to safely erect, use, and dismantle scaffolding based on OSHA standard § 1926.451. The regulatory requirements for scaffolds and components to determine scaffolding capacity states that all scaffolds and components must not only support their weight but also support an additional weight of 4 times the maximum intended load and suspension ropes must support an additional weight of 6 times the maximum intended load scaffolding. The students are taught all the details of platform construction, proper planking or decking, closing of spacing, and the exceptions for platforms that are used solely as walkways or during the erection and dismantling. There is a hoist stall load limit that must be understood, along with the stability of adjustable suspension scaffolds that are important. At the conclusion of the course, trainees will know how to identify hazards, maintain construction integrity, and implement safe practices, which will effectively reduce the risk of scaffold accidents and enhance safety during construction at heights.
