Managing Safety and Health - General Industry

Course Overview

• The importance of safety and health management and the prevention of workplace accidents and injuries
• The strategies for identifying and evaluating workplace hazards, including the use of workplace assessments and observation
• The procedures for implementing control measures to eliminate or mitigate hazardous operations, including the use of engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment
• The importance of developing and implementing a safety and health program that is consistent with OSHA regulations and industry best practices
• The role of management and employees in promoting safety and health in the workplace, including the use of safety committees, training programs, and incentive programs
• The strategies for continuous improvement in safety and health management, including the use of performance metrics, benchmarking, and other performance improvement techniques

Learning Outcomes

• Understanding of general industry safety and health hazards: The program covers the hazards associated with general industry, including the identification and assessment of potential hazards.
  
• Knowledge of general industry safety and health best practices: The program covers the latest best practices in general industry safety and health, including how to design and implement safe procedures to minimize the risk of injury to workers.
• Ability to identify and assess general industry safety and health hazards: Upon completion of the program, you will have the skills to identify and assess potential hazards in general industry, including ergonomic hazards, machine safeguarding, and hazardous materials handling.
• Understanding of the role of safety and health in injury prevention in general industry: The program covers the importance of safety and health in injury prevention in general industry, including how to implement safe procedures to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
• Knowledge of safety and health program development and implementation in general industry: The program covers the development and implementation of safety and health programs in general industry, including how to develop and implement safety and health policies, procedures, and training programs.

Mode of Delivery

Training sessions will be conducted through Microsoft Team Meetings in an online format, or through LMS or face-to-face delivery. Invitations for the meeting will be distributed one day before the commencement of the training program. Training is either delivered by an accredited training provider or an affiliate training center.

Course Content

Training should emphasize on the following contents;

• Introduction to Safety and Health Management: Overview of the importance of safety and health management, the role of managers in promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
• OSHA Standards and Regulations: Overview of OSHA standards and regulations for general industry, understanding the legal requirements for workplace safety and health.
• Identifying and Evaluating Hazards:Methods for identifying and assessing workplace hazards, strategies for controlling and mitigating hazards.
• Safety and Health Programs: The importance of safety and health programs in general industry, steps for developing and implementing a safety and health program.
• Employee Involvement and Communication: The importance of employee involvement in safety and health management, communication strategies for effectively engaging employees in safety and health.
• Safety Inspections, Audits, and Evaluations: The purpose and process of safety inspections, audits, and evaluations, how to conduct effective safety inspections and audits, use of inspection results to improve safety and health performance.
• Safety Training and Education: Developing and delivering effective safety and health training, strategies for promoting a culture of safety and health through education and awareness.
• Incident Investigation and Analysis: The importance of incident investigation in safety and health management, the process of incident investigation and analysis, Root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.

Entry Requirements

Program Duration

This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.

Examination

All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
