Course Overview
The Ergonomic Hazards in the Construction Industry course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals focuses on helping employers and workers understand how to identify, assess, and control ergonomic risks on construction sites while abiding by OSHA Regulations §1926.20 and §1926.21. These regulations state that contractors and subcontractors must keep employees from hazardous, unhealthy, and ergonomic working conditions that could cause musculoskeletal injuries. This course focuses on the employer’s duty to develop and implement effective safety programs and to perform safety inspections on a regular basis. Also, it is the employer’s duty to ensure that only qualified and trained personnel operate machinery and tools. Course participants learn to identify ergonomic risks due to repetitive movements, awkward postures, working with heavy objects, and exposure to vibration. Participants also learn how to use preventive measures such as job rotation, mechanical lifting aids, and safe lifting techniques. This training also stresses that OSHA requires safety training, and that employers must teach workers to identify and control potential hazards around them. Participants of this course will learn how to develop ergonomic safety plans that minimize risks of musculoskeletal injuries, improve productivity, and create a healthier and more OSHA compliant work environment in the construction industry.
