Course Overview
The Emergency Action Plans EAP course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals focuses on preparing, executing, and overseeing effective workplace emergency response plans that can be used and sustained in the workplace. Based on OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.38, the course covers the essentials of documenting and communicating plans that serve to safeguard workers during firefighting, chemical spill, natural disaster medical, and workplace violence emergencies. You learn to spot possible dangers, evaluate site specific risks, and create reporting, evacuation, rescue, and medical response plans that meet legal reporting and evacuation rescue medical response federal and state emergency response laws. Training emphasizes local emergency service coordination as detailed in the NFPA 1600 standard in the 1600 publications of the National Fire Protection Association. Definition of roles and responsibilities, and execution of simulations to assess service readiness, as emphasized in Ground Emergency Medical Service and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) for Fire Protection, are key components. Training covers the design and communication of evacuation and assembly plan, protest and emergency response drills, and responsibilities of people with disabilities and other special needs in the response and recovery plans. Lastly, the Emergency Action Plans (EAP) course prioritizes post-incident response evaluations in comparison to other emergency response preparedness training that attempt to indoctrinate “planned rehearsal” with the goal of process automation in emergency response. Finishing this program gives safety leaders and organizational decision-makers tools to help build a culture of preparedness, increase compliance with OSHA and NFPA standards and help make their workplaces more flexible and resilient to various emergency situations.
