Course Overview
The Effective Safety Committee Operations course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals covers the details on the arrangement, formation, and management of safety and health committees, including workplace safety committees as addressed in §1960.37 of the Federal Safety Standards. This course targets both management and employee representatives tasked with safety promotion in collaborative committee arrangements. Competency in Safety Committee formation and management at the national, regional, and local organizational levels is a key area of focus. The course covers the formation of legal and organizationally compliant committees that equally balance management and non-management representation. The course examines the functions of national safety committees, which focus on policy advisory committees and safety program oversight, as well the local committees that support and monitor the implementation of workplace safety and health programs. The course covers the significance of employee representatives and the governance procedures that exist in both unionized and non-unionized settings. Safety committees in various documented case studies reveal the true potential of combatting workplace hazards, enhancing OSHA compliance, and facilitating effective communication, all through dispute resolution. By the end of the course, you will be able to build committees with the right menu, execute valuable safety meetings, and create a culture of collective responsibility for the occupational safety and health of your organization. This course is made for safety coordinators and committee members, supervisors, and organizational leaders who want to improve safety in the workplace through committee participation and collaboration.
