Course Overview
The course on Healthcare Worker Safety taught by the American Institute of Safety Professionals is important training for healthcare workers on the safe handling of blood and other potentially infectious materials (PIM) as per OSHA §1910.1030 Bloodborne Pathogens standards. Attendees learn the various occupational exposure risks and the complex and applicable scope of the standard. They also learn fundamental definitions on blood, bloodborne pathogens, contaminated sharps, decontamination, and the engineering controls. In the course, the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) safe work practices and the safe work practices to be used during routine and emergency procedures to minimize risks of exposure to infectious materials and other potentially infectious materials is highly emphasized. Healthcare workers are taught to identify exposure incidents, understand the occupational exposure, and the engineering control that are appropriate to be used risk control, particularly sharps disposal containers, self-sheathing needles, safer medical devices, and needleless systems. The course also trains the handling and identifying OPIM, particularly certain human body fluids, unfixed tissues, and HIV/HBV-containing cultures, and understanding parenteral exposure. This program aids healthcare workers to reduce workplace hazard and control infection to protect themselves, coworkers, and patients while also compliance with regulatory standards.

Mode of Delivery
Training sessions will be conducted through Microsoft Team Meetings in an online format, or through LMS or face-to-face delivery. Invitations for the meeting will be distributed one day before the commencement of the training program. Training is either delivered by an accredited training provider or an affiliate training center.

- Fire Safety in Healthcare Facilities: Fire prevention and protection measures in healthcare environments, emergency evacuation procedures and fire drills, fire extinguisher usage and maintenance
- Electrical Safety in Healthcare Facilities: Electrical hazards in healthcare environments, safe use and maintenance of electrical equipment, prevention of electrical shocks and fires
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):Identification of PPE requirements in healthcare environments, proper use and maintenance of PPE
- Safety Procedures and Compliance: Compliance with OSHA and other regulatory bodies, safety audits and inspections, record-keeping and reporting requirements
- Emergency Preparedness and Response: Identification and management of emergency situations, emergency response procedures and emergency response teams, first aid and emergency medical services
- Safety Training and Communication: Importance of safety training for healthcare workers, communication of safety policies and procedures, employee engagement and feedback

Program Duration
This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.
Examination
All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
