Course Overview
The Construction Safety Management course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals gives training on the prevention and control of occupational exposures to biological and environmental hazards to construction and similar workplaces. It is consistent with OSHA Standard §1910.1030 – Bloodborne Pathogens and is centered on the recognition, control, and minimization of risks on blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). It offers a detailed explanation of bloodborne pathogens, contaminated sharps, engineering controls, exposure incidents, PPE, and other important definitions. It teaches various preventive measures aimed at isolation or removal of hazards from the work environment, such as needleless systems, self-sheathing needles, and sharps disposal containers. It emphasizes the importance of and the proper steps to be taken with an ECP, decontamination, and waste management, exposure incident response, and the emergency response plans. It illustrates the clinical/lab/on-site environment to the importance of proper PPE, universal precautions, and handwashing. OSHA and real-life examples guide the teaching of identification of high-risk activities, incorporation of administrative and engineering controls, mandatory employee training, and vaccination and medical follow-up programs. After completing the course, learners will know how to handle construction site safety and maintain safety regulations, reduce biological threats, and develop a safety and health culture at every tier in construction activities.

The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
