The Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) course provides a comprehensive overview of the principles and practices of effective safety and environmental management. Participants will learn about the development and implementation of a SEMS program, including the assessment of risk and the establishment of safety and environmental policies and procedures. The course will cover key topics such as incident investigation, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance, as well as best practices for communication, training, and management review. The course is designed for professionals working in safety and environmental management, as well as those involved in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management and compliance. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on activities, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to develop and implement a SEMS program that meets the requirements of OSHA and other regulatory bodies. The course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the best practices and standards for safety and environmental management and equips them with the tools they need to ensure the safety and sustainability of their operations.

  • Understanding of safety and environmental management system principles: The program covers the principles and practices of safety and environmental management systems, including the importance of protecting workers, the environment, and the community from hazards related to industrial operations.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental management system regulations and standards: The program covers the latest OSHA and environmental regulations and industry best practices in safety and environmental management systems, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the field.
  • Ability to identify and assess safety and environmental hazards: Upon completion of the program, you will have the skills to identify potential safety and environmental hazards and assess their level of risk.
  • Understanding of safety and environmental hazard control measures and procedures: The program covers various control measures and procedures for reducing or eliminating safety and environmental hazards, including how to develop and implement effective safety and environmental management systems.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental management system training and education: The program covers the importance of training and educating employees on safety and environmental management systems, including how to develop and deliver effective safety and environmental management system training programs.

Training sessions will be conducted through Microsoft Team Meetings in an online format, or through LMS or face-to-face delivery. Invitations for the meeting will be distributed one day before the commencement of the training program. Training is either delivered by an accredited training provider or an affiliate training center.

Training should emphasize on the following contents;

  • Introduction: Overview of Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS), importance of SEMS in the oil and gas industry
  • SEMS Fundamentals: Safety management systems, environmental management systems, integration of safety and environmental management systems
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: Identification of hazards in the oil and gas industry, evaluation of risks, implementation of control measures
  • Emergency Response and Preparedness: Emergency response plans, firefighting and evacuation procedures, search and rescue techniques, medical response and first aid
  • Compliance and Regulations: Federal and state regulations for oil and gas operations, compliance with industry standards and best practices
  • Auditing and Inspection: Auditing and inspection techniques for SEMS, best practices for maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Continual Improvement: Continual improvement processes, root cause analysis and incident investigation, implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Environmental Impact and Risk Assessment: Identification and assessment of the environmental impact of oil and gas operations, risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Case Studies and Best Practices: Analysis of real-world incidents and accidents in the oil and gas industry, discussion of best practices for preventing and managing incidents

This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.

All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
