Welcome to the AISP 32-Hour Course designed exclusively for General Industry Committee Members. As committee members, you play a crucial role in shaping the policies, regulations, and standards that govern the general industry landscape. With this responsibility comes the need for a deep understanding of various aspects of the industry, as well as the ability to adapt to ever-changing challenges and advancements. This course has been carefully curated by industry experts to provide you with a well-rounded understanding of the key principles, best practices, and emerging trends in the general industry.

Upon completing the AISP 32-Hour Course for General Industry Committee Members, participants will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the policies, regulations, and standards that govern the general industry landscape, enabling them to make informed decisions as committee members.
  • Articulate the critical role they play in shaping and influencing industry policies, ensuring the safety, productivity, and well-being of workers and businesses.
  • Identify and analyze various aspects of the general industry, including its operations, processes, and challenges, to make well-informed recommendations and decisions.
  • Apply best practices and industry standards to address current and emerging issues within the general industry, fostering continuous improvement and development.
  • Utilize their knowledge of emerging trends and advancements in the industry to adapt and respond effectively to dynamic and ever-changing challenges.
  • Collaborate with fellow committee members, industry experts, and stakeholders to foster a collaborative approach in addressing industry concerns and shaping policies.
  • Develop strategic plans and initiatives that prioritize safety, sustainability, and compliance within the general industry.
  • Evaluate and assess the impact of proposed policies and regulations on workers, businesses, and the industry as a whole, considering both short-term and long-term implications.
  • Leverage their well-rounded understanding of the industry to engage in constructive dialogues and advocate for the implementation of evidence-based solutions.
  • Successfully apply their knowledge and skills gained throughout the course to drive positive change and contribute significantly to the progress and success of the general industry.

Training sessions will be conducted through Microsoft Team Meetings in an online format, or through LMS or face-to-face delivery. Invitations for the meeting will be distributed one day before the commencement of the training program. Training is either delivered by an accredited training provider or an affiliate training center.

Introduction to OSHA/Local Government Agencies – 1 hour:

Overview of policies and regulations set by OSHA or local government agencies to ensure workplace health and safety. Covers the purpose and scope of OSHA, its role in enforcing safety standards, inspecting workplaces, and providing education and outreach.

    OSHA Focus Four Hazards – 4 hours:

    Falls (minimum 1 hour and 30 minutes)

    Electrocution (minimum 1 hour and 30 minutes)

    Struck-By (e.g., falling objects, trucks, cranes) (30 minutes)

    Caught-In or Between (e.g., trench hazards, equipment) (30 minutes)

    Focus Four Training Requirements:

    Training aims to raise awareness about the four most common causes of death in the construction industry: falls, electrocution, caught-in or between hazards, and struck-by hazards.

    Training must be provided in a language and vocabulary that employees can understand and must be documented.

    Student Objectives for Focus Four:

    EO 1: Identify major hazards

    EO 2: Describe types of hazards

    EO 3: Protect oneself from these hazards

    EO 4: Recognize employer requirements to protect workers from these hazards

    Training Requirements:

    Trainers must adhere to these objectives and use effective training techniques.

    Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – 30 minutes

    Health Hazards in Construction – 30 minutes:

    Topics may include noise, hazard communication, crystalline silica, or other construction health hazards.

    Elective Topics – 2 hours:

    At least two topics must be presented, with a minimum length of 30 minutes each.

    Possible topics include:

    a) Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, and Conveyors

    b) Excavations

    c) Materials Handling, Storage, Use, and Disposal

    d) Scaffolds

    e) Stairways and Ladders

    f) Tools - Hand and Power

    This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.

    All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
