This training program is intended to provide entry-level general industry workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a job site. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.

Upon completing this training program, entry-level general industry workers will be able to:
  • Understand their rights as employees in the general industry, including knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations that protect their well-being.
  • Articulate the responsibilities of employers in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all workers.
  • Demonstrate the process of filing a complaint in case of safety violations or hazardous conditions encountered at the workplace.
  • Identify and recognize various job-related hazards commonly found on general industry job sites and understand their potential risks and consequences.
  • Implement effective strategies to mitigate, avoid, and control hazards to promote a safer work environment.
  • Utilize hazard abatement techniques and preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Differentiate between hazard identification, avoidance, and control measures, and OSHA standards, with an emphasis on prioritizing hazard prevention over mere compliance.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired during the training to real-life scenarios, making informed decisions to enhance safety practices at their job sites.
  • Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to communicate potential hazards and actively participate in proactive safety measures.
  • Successfully participate in the training program, engaging in discussions, practical exercises, and assessments to reinforce learning.

Training sessions will be conducted through Microsoft Team Meetings in an online format, or through LMS or face-to-face delivery. Invitations for the meeting will be distributed one day before the commencement of the training program. Training is either delivered by an accredited training provider or an affiliate training center.

Training should emphasize on the following contents;

Mandatory Topics - 6 hours

1. Introduction to OSHA/Local Government Agencies – 1 hour: overview of the policies and regulations set by these organizations to ensure the health and safety of employees in the workplace. Covers the purpose and scope of OSHA or local government agencies, including its role in enforcing occupational safety standards, inspecting workplaces, and providing education and outreach to employers and employees.

2. Walking and Working Surfaces, including fall protection – 1 hour  

3. Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection – 1 hour 

4. Electrical – 1 hour

5. Personal Protective Equipment – 1 hour

6. Hazard Communication – 1 hour

Elective Topics - 2 hours

The trainer must present at least two hours of training on the following topics. At least two topics must be presented. The minimum length of any topic is one-half hour.

a) Hazardous Materials

b) Materials Handling

c) Machine Guarding

d) Introduction to Industrial Hygiene

e) Bloodborne Pathogens

f) Ergonomics

g) Safety and Health Program

h) Fall Protection

Optional Topics - 2 hours

Teach other general industry hazards or policies and/or expand on the mandatory or elective topics. The minimum length of any topic is one-half hour.

Training should emphasize the following contents;

1. Introduction to OSHA

2. Hazards Communication 29 CFR 1910.1200

3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

4. Walking and Working Surfaces including Fall Protection

5. Electrical Safety for Employees

6. Emergency Action Plans

7. Fire Prevention Plans and Fire Protection

8. Emergency Exit Routes

9. Introduction to Industrial Hygiene

10. Safety and Health Program

This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.

All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
