Course Overview
The Oil and Gas Hazard Awareness Program course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals covers the OSHA regulations as per §1910.120 and HAZWOPER, focusing on the oil and gas industry. After taking this course, a person will be able to identify and control safety and health hazards associated with hazardous substances during normal operations, during clean-up, and during emergencies. The program recognizes the federal, state, and local laws regarding clean-up operations on uncontrolled hazardous waste sites and the clean-up waste site actions on the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). It also recognizes voluntary clean-up operations, the handling hazardous waste in treatment, storage and disposal (TSD) facilities as per 40 CFR parts 264 and 265, and the clean-up operations commanded by federal, state, and local authorities. The course prepares a person to respond to emergencies with proper mitigations against releases or potential releases of hazardous substances. Hazards identification, risk assessment, and measurements of control and mitigation will be covered in this training. The course’s training in this area will cover OSHA standards as they regard the safety of employees, the proper use of PPE, and the safe and hazardous chemical procedures during decontamination. It will also cover the safe handling of decontaminated and untreated chemicals. Real world scenarios and operations case studies will provide constructive feedback on operational hazards. At the end of the program, learners will be able to identify hazards in the oil and gas sector, apply safety and emergency response measures, identify OSHA compliance requirements, and build a culture of safety that protects people, property, and the environment in high-risk operations from potential loss.
