Course Overview
The Hydrogen Sulfide H2S Safety course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals to enable employees and safety professionals to identify, avoid, and deal with the risks presented by hydrogen sulfide in the workplace and natural surroundings. H₂S is a sewer gas, stink damp, and is described as a colorless gas. It has extremely hazardous and highly combustible properties and can be identified as having a "rotten egg" smell in minimal amounts. This training would cover H₂S sources and behavior in depth to identify the life-threatening risks associated with the accumulation of hydrogen sulfide in low-ended or enclosed areas as sewers, tanks, and underground vaults. H₂S workers training will cover the importance of gas detection systems, emergency response procedures, and the need for respiratory protective equipment. Work sites in the oil and gas refining, mining, pulp and paper processing sectors, as well as in wastewater treatment, will apply the training and cover ventilation controls. Fatal and non-fatal long and short-term effects of H₂S such as head pain, dying, eye torment, and respiratory failure will be described, including the exposure limits and first aid procedures. Real life H₂S case studies on work safe permits, constant monitoring, and teamwork during confined space will also be described. After taking the course, participants will be more equipped to recognize H₂S hazards, apply preventive controls, and respond to H₂S emergencies to help ensure a safer and OSHA-compliant workplace.
