Course Overview
The Ergonomic Hazards in Construction Industry course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals examines OSHA Sanitation Standard §1926.51. It centers on the prevention of biological hazards through the proper hygiene, sanitation, and waste disposal on construction sites. This course describes in depth the safe construction of drinking water supply systems and the safe drinking water provisions and hygienic practices needed to prevent contamination through cross connection with nonpotable water. It trains construction site supervisors and managers on the safe provision, labeling, and handling of drinking water containers and the control of shared drinking utensils to prevent waterborne infectious disease transmission. It states the OSHA requirement on the provision of adequate sanitary toilet facilities and the number of construction workers with respect to accessibility, standard of cleanliness, and sanitary provisions to the environment. It describes in detail the toilet types appropriate for temporary field conditions: chemical, recirculating, and combustion (torcher). It also addresses the groundwater contamination prevention. This course also explains the health standard that an employer must provide to protect workers from the biological unsanitary jobsite conditions that include bacteria, virus, and parasite. It describes effective sanitation programs that control biological regulatory compliant construction job site hazards. It further describes the building of a safe and healthy construction environment.
