Course Overview
The Contractor Safety Management course provided by the American Institute of Safety Professionals expands on American OSHA’s §1926.16 - Rules of Construction document - focusing on the rights, duties, and job safety compliance and responsibility of contractors and subcontractors. The course describes the roles of each contracting party and explains that while control duties, such as first-aid, sanitization, and safety, can be assigned, the compliance and control duties of an entire contract remain with the prime contractor. Students understand the overlapping safety duties of prime and subcontractors, which extend to several levels of subcontractors. The course describes the enforcement side of OSHA, explaining the liability of both prime and subcontracting on workplace safety violations within their contract. Students learn, in case study format, safety program coordination techniques and strategic contractor engagement and oversight in safety communication, compliance, and accountability that cascades throughout all levels of a project. Students learn to design an integrated contractor safety management system, define safety responsibilities within contracts, and integrate risk management and compliance for all parties on site in collaboration.
