Course Overview
The Confined Space Entry Training Program for Entrant and Attendant course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals for Entrant and Attendant focuses on the requirements of OSHA §1910.146. Guide OSHA on safe practices and procedures to protect employees in General Industry under the provisions outlined in the course. Identify Confined Spaces, in particular those with four characteristics: the space is large enough to permit an employee to enter; has limited or restricted entry or exit; is not intended for continuous occupancy; and is an enclosed space such as a tank, vessel, a silo, a bin, a vault, a pit or a vault. Participants understand the critical roles of authorized entrants and attendants, the latter monitoring entrants as they perform all duties required by the employer’s permit space program. Training covers concepts of acceptable entry conditions and emergency response, blanking or blinding entry, and double block and bleed, to guarantee safe entry, working, and exit of entrants in confined spaces. Hazards of confined spaces, such as engulfment, risky atmospheres, and restricted access, as well as overcoming these hazards through assessment, protective equipment, communication, and monitoring. Participants learn how to use and adhere to confined space entry permits, emergency procedures, and accident avoidance communication protocols between entrants and attendants through hands-on activities and life-like situations. At the conclusion of the program, they are prepared to complete safe confined space operations, identify and manage hazards, deal with emergency situations, and uphold OSHA standards, thereby, creating a culture of active safety and risk reduction in environments where entry into a confined space is needed.
