The Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) course by American Institute of Safety Professionals conducts in-depth studies on safety management in healthcare contexts specifying how professionals can recognize, evaluate, and manage occupational risks in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care centers. The course covers how to adhere to requirements both nationally and internationally including the OSHA’s General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910), the Joint Commission Environment of Care (EC) standards, NFPA 99 standards for healthcare facilities, CDC’s guidelines for infection control and workplace safety, and other CDC guidelines. There are also the pivotal elements of bloodborne pathogens (OSHA §1910.1030), chemical safety, ergonomics, and fire safety, incident command, and emergency preparedness, safety of healthcare technology and equipment, and lessons derived from historical healthcare incidents and practices. Students are also able to reinforce the organizational proactive safety culture and safety program compliance with regulations and standards through safety program elements, safety compliance audits, training design, and safety audits.

This program follows global workplace health and safety standards, and is taught by industry experts. Successful students receive an American Institute of Safety Professionals accredited certificate which is recognized by several employers and regulatory bodies.
Graduates receive a master certificate, course completion certificate (if applicable), an official transcript, a wallet card, and access to a professional safety network which promotes ongoing learning and career growth.
Program Duration
The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.
Examination
Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided.
The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.
