Course Overview
The Worker Safety in Restaurants course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals provides the necessary skills to professionals in order to create a safe and compliant environment in restaurants. Safety regulations under OSHA §1910.157 regarding portable fire extinguishers are a significant focus of the training. The training ensures that fire extinguishers are distributed and placed to within reasonable and tactical reach to extinguish fires of Class A, B, C, and D hazards. In case of an emergency, every fire extinguisher must be positioned in such a way that the response time is minimized. Participants of the course also develop the skills to create and manage comprehensive fire safety programs concerning portable fire extinguishers. Such programs include, but are not limited to, a monthly visual inspection of the extinguishers, an annual maintenance inspection, and a routine hydrostatic testing of the fire extinguishers, as well as proper record keeping. Also, a focus is placed on maintenance procedures of extinguishers taken out of service, and testing conditions that necessitate hydrostatic testing such as, cylinder fire damage, corrosion, or any exposure to fire. Completing this program ensures that a participant has the necessary skills to keep patrons and employees safe, comply with fire safety regulations, eliminate potential fire hazards, and foster a safe atmosphere for everyone in the restaurant.
