Course Overview
The Well Site Preparation and Drilling Safety Course by the American Institute of Safety Professionals focuses on training personnel, supervisors, and safeties in the oil and gas industry on how to plan, prepare, and execute well site operations safely and in adherence to regulations and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Emphasis is placed on pre-site planning and preparation, which includes identifying hazards, assessing risks, and actions which must be taken to mitigate and control risks. The need to avoid accidents and injuries to workers is critical. Course participants learn the specifics of site layout and operational aspects including access (size and location of access roads) and placement ( rig placement, and safe handling and storage of drilling materials, equipment and chemicals) site rig operational safety). The training included the need for operational control (both emergency and routine) including safe use of PPE, safety procedures, and critical control points. Safety and compliance at operational levels include maintenance of and adherence to control plans for equipment and site, safe rig up/down, hazard and risk control, and environmental risk spill, emission, and waste control. The training covers a comprehensive safety compliance reporting and external coordination and planning. In this way, a culture of safety is encouraged. After finishing this program, participants will know how to recognize and reduce hazards, apply safe work practices, and make sure drilling operations run smoothly and safely.
